Quebec's provincial election campaign will officially begin on Aug. 23.
Summary from Canada, from articles in English
A Quebec wind farm project - under negotiation since 2015 - is quickly becoming a contentious political issue, in the days leading up to the official start of the provincial election. (article 1) Members of the Coalition Avenir Quebec (CAQ) have panned the Liberal Party's plan to construct some 50 wind turbines near the town of Port-Cartier, in Quebec's Côte-Nord region. (article 1) François Legault has announced he would set the daily rate for subsidized daycare at $8.05 per child, regardless of parents' income levels, if elected Quebec's next premier. (article 4) The official start of the provincial election campaign may be more than a week away, but the leaders of Quebec's main political parties all made public appearances today, as the competition informally heats up. (article 2) Political observers say Premier Philippe Couillard also hopes the longer campaign time will put more pressure on Legault, whose CAQ party has been ahead in the most recent polls. (article 2) Couillard made the announcement this afternoon in Montreal at the annual convention of the youth wing of his Liberal Party. (article 3) With today's announcement, the campaign will officially last the maximum of 39 days, before Quebecers head to the polls on Oct 1. (article 3)
