Scientists study how wildfire smoke affects people, environment
Summary from multiple countries, from articles in English
Metro Vancouver and much of south and central B.C. are once again under a blanket of smoke and haze, and there is little relief in the forecast. (article 1) On Tuesday smoke from an estimated 600 wildfires burning across the province pushed the air quality health index up to high for large areas of the province, meaning residents should consider reducing strenuous activities outdoors. (article 1) A number of heat warnings are in effect for Newfoundland this week, with high temperatures and humidity expected, but it's actually cooler than originally predicted. (article 4) Smoke from the wildfires raging across the West is reaching as far as the East Coast, according to the National Weather Service. (article 3) A team of scientists from five universities and a handful of federally funded agencies are flying a specially equipped plane through the plumes to do the most extensive anaylsis of wildfire smoke ever. (article 3) Over the weekend, nearly 150 new fires were sparked by lightning strikes as a storm system passed over the province, raising the total number of wildfires burning across B.C. to around 600. (article 2) On Monday morning, Metro Vancouver also issued an air quality advisory after a change in the wind pulled smoke into the region on Sunday evening. (article 2)
